Managing Through the Cycle for Construction Success with Steel
The current construction cycle is unlike any other we have ever seen. In this session, we will do a deep dive into the drivers of construction costs, emphasizing how steel’s availability and raw material sourcing can be best understood to minimize risk, reduce project costs, and achieve success. Participants will walk away with a better understanding of emerging market growth opportunities and how to manage through the highs and lows of the construction cycle to win together.

Disinfecting Lighting: How to Safely Improve The Environment
COVID-19 has changed our lives and it will create a “new normal” for the foreseeable future. In an effort to return to “normal” building owners are exploring all options to make things safer and give the perception that they are doing everything possible to protect customers and occupants. Whole-room disinfection systems normally used in hospitals are being considered for this purpose. Various systems using chemicals and light are being proposed with unsubstantiated claims and/or unintended consequences. This presentation will provide an overview of various light-based disinfection technologies (UV and visible) with a comparative focus on efficacy, safety, total cost of ownership, environmental impacts and operational considerations. This will give building owners, architects, engineers, and specifiers the information needed to deploy these systems safely and effectively. Learning Goals: • Learn the different types of infectious organisms and how disease is transmitted in the built environment • Review commercially available light-based disinfection technologies • Identify the key performance specification characteristics and trade-offs for light-based disinfection technologies • Review applicable safety standards for light-based disinfection technologies • Understand how to analyze manufacturer performance and safety claims

How to Secure Your Supply when Supplies Are Limited
As the economy emerges from the pandemic lockdown, demand for materials and for subcontractors has returned faster than the supply-side can keep up. With once-idled supply chains and building projects emerging from hibernation, GCs and Subs struggle with trades and material shortages and out-of-control inflation. Pandemic-proofing your contracting business is not only a good practice for times of economic disruption and supply chain instability but it will also enable you to operate a more profitable business during the stable times. Join this panel discussion to learn practical tips from experts and peers how to keep your business and projects running as supply shortages continue to happen. Register for this session here.

Reimagine Sustainable Construction with Steel
The days of a steel mill being depicted by tall smokestacks emitting clouds of gases into the atmosphere are diminishing in the United States. As the movement to build more sustainably grows, steel is increasingly being chosen as the material of choice. This session will explore Nucor’s sustainable steelmaking process, which uses recycled scrap to make high-quality steel with low emissions, as well as what Nucor is doing to further our goal of zero-emission steel at scale. Come prepared to reimagine sustainable construction with steel!

Building Design Resiliency for Roofing
Since commercial roofing systems are the first line of defense against extreme weather and climate patterns, approved roof assemblies are constantly changing in response to the ever changing impact from weather. During this session, we will cover the effects of condensation on roofs and designing for resiliency against moisture prevention, wind, and other impacts. Join us to learn more around the changes from ASCE 7-10 to ASCE 7-16 and how adding a cover board to your roof can help create a stronger system.

NFPA 285 for Wall Assemblies
Johns Manville AP™ Foil Polyiso Sheathing recently received approvals for additional NFPA 285 wall assemblies, including solid metal panels. This comes at a significant time, as the trend toward green building design has led to increased use in foam plastic insulations, structural fire control has become a higher priority for many building designers. This has led to a growing demand for wall assembly fire test methods, like NFPA 285. Understanding how to use and interpret the test data from NFPA 285 is important to designing and building exterior walls with fire safety in mind.
